yes software engineer is just an area of CS, and it is independent master
degree program. So, do you guys have any suggestion?

PHD: CS
JOB: S/W

for examples, S/W rarely write compilers,
S/W know nothing about combinatorics
S/W doesn't compute eigenvalues...
but C/S must be very specific to know PHP/MYSQL/XML...
personal view.

In fact, many real Computer Scientists don't think Software Engineering is a
science. Some people even think it should belong to ECE or MIS. hehe:)

Everybody knows SE belongs to CS. However, there is not much science part in
Software Engineering.

it is too early to talk PHD.
first find a prof that would take you.
in two /three years, you mind would change.

如果毕业出去做个程序员，读个SE的硕士就可以了，博士还是算了吧。

For some reason, I have filed an OPT. I am unable to filed another
application if the new degree is not on a Ph.D level.Anyway, I have persue
a Ph.D degree finally. So may I dig something in SE field for Ph.D program?

我就是做金融软件的，Straight Bond 分析系统， 200名大学排名， CS硕士，全A，
感觉你数学逻辑好就行，当然离散数学也要学好也是很难的，这样，你才有可能进去，
这些地方没这么容易进（第一次，后面就可以有Reference了）。其他的不重要。
你又不可能做交易平台。
发现的确是青春饭，现在都不想做，想去UPenn上network security PHD, 当初导师推
荐我去没去，现在好后悔，年龄过30 啦

各有利弊，需要更多的信息，例如地点，具体学校，学校开设科目。
