It has nothing to do with 2000. Use IMAP. Tools/IMAP folders

No, it doesn't allow multiple session in the sense that whatever operation
you perform, after sync it would be directly on the mail box, to avoid
conflict it will have a locking mechanism whatsoever. You can't have two
simultaneous POP3 session of course, but most POP3 sessions last only for
the period that you download/delete emails, so doesn't matter.
Sure it does, I can even find the lock file in my UNIX mail server /tmp
directory :-)) And while using Outlook97 a while back ago, it will even

Actually, IMAP is much better than POP3.
Many servers in universities or companies support IMAP. If the free email box
does not support it, you can always use fetchmail to get it.
