Nah. Economy runs like this: You first produce and earn some money. You then go out consuming. Still you don't overconsume. You save some which becomes capitals that can be invested to grow more wealth. What Americans did was they produced less and less and yet consumed like there's no tomorrow. To fill the gap, they took on an abysmal load of debt that they now cannot pay back. The only thing that steadily grows in US is the national debt and welfare liabilities, neither of which is productive
