打算hold。如果以后还往里加钱的话我可能还会买
Citigroup (NYSE: C [FREE Stock Trend Analysis]) failed to dazzle this
morning with disappointing fourth quarter earnings. Citigroup reported EPS
of $0.04, much lower than $0.07 Street estimates. Earnings were on the low
end of the expectations, which were in the analyst survey range of $0.04 to
$0.08. In the previous quarter, Citigroup's earnings increased by 10%.
In pre-market trading, Citigroup was at $5.19 before the news. Following the
initial announcement of EPS of $0.04, it was trading at $4.96, down from
Friday's close of $5.13. After the adjustment to $0.07, pre-market trading
continued to slide downward. The announcement was a big disappointment to
investors as the downward fall continues.Although some would claim that the
market is overreacting to the news; perhaps it will, indeed, have profoundly
negative effects on the future of Citigroup.
With news that JP Morgan (NYSE: JPM) exceeded its earnings expectations, the
pressure was on Citigroup to report similar results. Failing to do so
caused negative pressure on the stock, which may continue in the coming days
and weeks. Should investors see this as a buying opportunity or a chance to
jump ship?
Investors who believe this is a market overreaction or simply a minor
setback for Citigroup may consider taking a long position in Citigroup stock
, or buy call options. Those who have a more pessimistic outlook regarding
Citigroup's future may consider shorting the stock, buying put options, or
simply investing in competitors like JP Morgan (NYSE: JPM), Bank of America
(NYSE: BAC), or Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC). It would appear that Citigroup's
disappointing earnings are negatively affecting the price of these companies
as well; each one is down in pre-market trading today.
Disclosures: long C

Dec 21, 2010 NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (JPM) held onto
its lead in global investment-banking revenue in 2010,
followed by Bank of America Corp. (BAC) and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS),
according to preliminary year-end data released
Tuesday by Dealogic.
J.P. Morgan had $5.2 billion in investment-banking revenue for the year,
including fees from debt and equity underwriting, advisory
and lending, as the deal markets returned to life following the credit
crisis. Bank of America had investment-banking revenue of
$4.6 billion for the year, while Goldman had $4 billion. Morgan Stanley (MS)
came in fourth, with revenue of $3.8 billion.
The U.S. banks were outplayed by foreign banks, however. Deutsche Bank AG (
DB, DBK.XE) had the biggest year-over-year
increase on Wall Street, with revenue gains of 27%, to $3.5 billion,
according to Dealogic. That was enough to raise it to fifth place
from seventh among the top 15.
Investment banking revenues at Barclays (BARC.LN) surged 26% from 2009. The
bank, which took over the U.S. broker dealer
operations of Lehman Brothers following that firm's bankruptcy filing in
2008, retained its ninth place ranking year-over-year. RBC
Capital Markets, a unit of Royal Bank of Canada (RY.T), had a 25% increase
in investment banking revenues, though it stayed in
14th place.
Among the biggest losers, Royal Bank of Scotland's (RBS.LN) investment
banking revenues fell 23%, according to Dealogic, and
that of Nomura Securities fell 22%. Among U.S. banks, Citigroup's (C)
investment banking revenues fell 15% from 2009, while
Wells Fargo Securities declined 13%.
The data indicate Wall Street's traditional U.S. heavyweights are losing
their firm grip on the business. Though it still ranked first
year over year, J.P. Morgan's revenues were down 6%. Goldman's were down 3%.
Overall, Wall Street took in $66 billion in revenue from investment banking
this year, an 8% increase over 2009.
