I agree that sales tax had a significant impact, hopefully
that was offset by the overall increase of the online retail
market (and as the #1 player, amzn would benefit from that).
As to Kindle HD, I have one (the 4G LTE version) and absolutely
love it. I think it's a great device for reading and media
entertainment. I have not touched my iPad for months. Compared
to iOS, there are a lot more to do with Android (without having
to jailbreak or root. I stopped jailbreaking my Apple devices a
couple years ago).
I think amzn set the price low, and then further discounted that,
in order to compete with apple and grab market share, because they
entered the market late. It's not just for getting rid of inventory.
They are willing to (also have the ability to) sacrafice short term
profit for a larger user base, which eventually leads to long term
revenue and profit.
aman is a very strategic, long-term focused player in the tech
field. There seem to be sophisticated plannings behind everything
they do. Even profitability is still a question in the near term,
I am happy just to bet on Bezos.

So, because it keeps cutting price here and there.
There is no way to meet the estimates. It could collapse
10-20% easily if it delivers poor quarter.
However, since amazon has Kindle HD devices, the price cut for the Kindle
devices could help sales of the devices, which could offset its revenue loss
for other retail business. It cannot deliver margin it used to have.
If its revenue growth shows any sign of slow down, this stock
will be going down like crazy because current valuation completely
based on it can deliver 25-30% growth.

以前没税时那是便宜不少。现在则有时便宜些，有时差不多。
不过现在购物思维变了，如要选择店里还是网上，
通常是考虑店里是否比网上更有好处？
我到店里买的情形只有当天急用、店里便宜较多、或者吃不准会不会喜欢，有退货的可
能。
否则网上买了，隔个一两天寄到，反而更方便。
不用开车乱转，不用站在货架前纠结，不用排队结账。
当然，网上购物还是要找信誉好，服务好的网站。价钱也是一个因素。
综合起来，amzn还是最好的。因此一年网购的钱，七八成花在他家。

还有一招，找亚麻上信誉好的、价钱和亚麻差不多的第三方卖家。
这些第三方大多时候不在本州，就不收税。
注意最好是FBA。如果不是FBA，一来寄得慢，二来要注意退货问题。

网上shopping的确有你说的种种好处。我感觉把amzn定位在网上walmart还是差不多的
，除了没有grocery这一块。两者长期共存吧。不过现在的股价，应该是寄希望amzn有

不会出现这种情况的,因为另外一个因素在对估价有着巨大的影响,那就是
profitability. amzn这两年的策略都是在烧钱,使劲烧钱来drive topline growth.
他可以easily的double 或者triple margin. 之所以不做,因为显然topline是抢地盘,
更重要.但如果market开始stable,大家都会开始在margin上做文章.这个在行业里根本
不是啥秘密.
所以,amzn跌20%时候,无脑all in就好了,至少3年内我看不到啥风险.当然,作为零售行
业,暴涨本身就不是正常的,所以暴涨时出货就好了.一轮10%~20%利润,一年搞两轮已经
很好了.

Exactly, there are many undervalued stocks(below tangible book value and
with PE under 10).
It's just too risk to hold AMZN. Some day, it could swing like NFLX or even
half of the wave will scare out many individual.

怎么说呢,PE是给外行看的.我自己做过好几年零售业咨询,自觉地对里面规律比较了解.
其实amzn没多少risk的,PE高也是现在发展阶段的必然.抢地盘时,大家都疯狂烧钱.
他的其他业务其实也有risk的,比如kindle平台.不过总体来说是个plus,我认为.所以,
长线看好他.
