Mark Cuban said he bought one million shares of J.C. Penney stock a couple of days ago. Cuban was speaking on CNBC’s Street Signs show this afternoon. Penney’s shares have been trading in the $12 to $13 range lately. So, that means for him it was pocket change: $13 million or so. Cuban said he hasn’t met CEO Myron “Mike” Ullman yet, but wants to. He said there are some things they’re doing on the ABC-TV Shark Tank that he wants to talk to him about. Cuban is a regular panelist on the business pitch reality television show. And for the record, I just heard back from Cuban. He said, “I do shop some at Penney’s.” Fun! Since Penney’s former board member Bill Ackman sold his 17.7 percent stake in the Plano-based retailer, several hedge fund managers have bought the stock. This story covers it. There’s one more Wall Street big name that bought Penney shares earlier this year and that’s billionaire George Soros.
