Amazon unveils Fire TV set-top
Amazon's (AMZN +0.2%) Fire TV set-top (live blog) is a small, rectangular
box sporting a quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and dual-band Wi-Fi radio. As
expected, the device supports both Amazon's media content and a variety of
3rd-party sources (inc. Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus, and WatchESPN).Amazon
asserts the Fire TV's CPU leads it to exhibit far less lag than Apple TV,
and that its UI makes searching for content far easier. Voice search is
supported, as is a feature called "ASAP," which attempts to predict which
shows a user will want to watch.The event is ongoing. Amazon hasn't yet
announced any gaming features (previous), but it has shown a UI screenshot
that reveals a "Games" menu.
