as far as I know, IB would not. But it would assign shares if it were closed
at 9.51.

你帐户上没钱的话，他不会帮你exercise你的long call的.

If you sell, it all depends on whether the buyer exercises it or not. It's
out of your control. The buyer has the option as long as it's not expired.

That is correct. You can check your account Sunday. If the stocks are not
show-up. Then they are not assigned.
My wife shorted 50 $9.5 JCP 8/16/2014 puts, and she closed(bought it back)
the position yesterday.

I sold $6 puts couple months ago, and the options was assigned. I still hold
the stocks.
