Apple Inc.'s stock (AAPL) dropped 1% in morning trade, despite gains in the
broad market and technology sector, after Citigroup analyst Jim Suva cut its
iPhone sales estimate and said he expected other sell-side analysts to do
the same. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 158 points and
the SPDR Technology ETF (XLK) climbed 0.7%. Suva cut his fiscal fourth
quarter iPhone unit sales estimate to 47 million from 48 million, and
shifting the cut units to the fiscal first quarter. Suva said he made that
cut because although iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus sales of 13 million units
beat expectations, Apple said that only Friday and Saturday sales would be
counted in fourth-quarter results. "We expect Apple shares to see continued
volatility in the near term," Suva wrote in a note to clients, given near-
term investor focus on iPhone sales. He reiterated his buy rating and stock
price target of $145, which is 33% above current levels, because he sees
potential for upside to gross margin estimates, which could eventually
become the focus for investors. Apple's stock has lost 13% over the past
three months, while the Dow has slipped 6.2% and the XLK has eased 3.3%.

It shows that the street trades on headlines, not real news.
The citi cut is not really a 'cut', it's merely shifting some iphone sales
volume to the next quarter because the previous quarter ends on 9/25/2015 so
a significant portion of the opening weekend sales can not be counted. Same
quarter last year included the whole opening weekend sales and more. So it
will be a tough comp, iphone unit number may disappoint again. Since Apple
gives conservative guidance, the next quarter's forecast will likely to "
disappoint" as well. If shares sells off after earnings report, that will be
the perfect time to buy if you are long on AAPL.
p.s there will be more negative headline news to come out in the coming
weeks which is the quiet period for the companies scheduled to report.
During this time, Apple can neither talk to defend itself nor do share
buyback to defend AAPL the stock. My bet is that Deutsche bank analyst will
come out with some made-up negative crap in a week or so.

The whole market trades on headlines caused by some stupid accounting rules.
Just watch the behavior on this board. I may add more AAPL then. It is a
long-term play.
