Music is not exclusive, every player has everything. Video is a totally
different game. It's like you can buy HBO but you can't buy "Game of Throne"
from HBO. In a 3 years span, NFLX becomes a network that owns original
content comparable to HBO. And it has 75M subscribers. Yet it's running at
barely no profit for expansion.
Apple has talked about Apple TV 5 years now and nothing happened. Google is
still an Ad company and Youtube Red is still a joke. Amazon is the only
company trying hard, yet it takes 3% of total traffic vs. NFLX 37%. Amazon
prime is running at a loss and it doesn't have NFLX's content budget. As a
matter of the fact, NFLX's 6B content budget is more than the top TV
networks combined.
Given a couple of more years, there will be no competition. NFLX would be
able to outbid any competition on any TV show it wants to buy, because it
has more users to share the cost. Without top content, who will subscribe?
People pay to watch content, not Apple/Google logo. Trust me, it's easier to
buy NFLX than beat NFLX.
