That is a good place to start. You will also want to read the latter chapters
in "The LaTeX Companion" by the LaTeX developers, and take a look at the code
in article.cls, report.cls, book.cls, etc. Eventually you will also need
Donald Knuth's authoritative "TeXbook" to understand the really low level
code. Good luck!
