that's not UNIX's problem, that's the poor
Mp3 player's problem. UNIX is much
greater than windows.

That's the fun part of unix.
You have total control of your machine - almost everything has source
code available. The bad part is that you have to do everything by
yourself.
Windows do not have source code level availability. You can only change
some configurations.

I have 4 mp3 players in my sun machine:
mxaudio, amp, mpg123, and realplayer 7 basic.
everyone works perfectly.
In order to open audio device, make sure you login into your own machine.
