I tried using a printer called "laser227" under Solaris,
but got error msg as "connection refused".
does this mean that I havn't set up my workstation with the printer laser227?
what command should I use to fix this problem then?

Looks like it is. The server hosting the queue to the
printer is not taking your requests. Is it reachable (with
ping)?
Is "lpd" running?
Read `man printers` and `man printers.conf`.

#man printers.conf
No manual entry for printers.conf
I often meet with such problems, sometime when it seems there should be,
e.g., in a man page, xxx(3), then I
#man 3 xxx
or
#man -a xxx
and it tells
No manual entry for xxx
are there any tricks here?
my system is
Linux 2.2.5-15 i686 RH6.0

Ohh, those are for Slowris. Check your MANPATH env if it is
right.
