Is there such kind of product?
If I just want to do component-based development, not
distributed appliction, is CORBA useful? If yes, what
software can I use?

I am afraid of you can't
how can you register the claass in
the registry? no registry in UNIX

I just want to take advantage of the component-based
architecture of COM. Is there any other solution?

gnome is developed on a CORBA and components model.
Check out http://developer.gnome.org/arch/component/
If you are using gnome desktop you'll be able to use
their libraries and framework. So far it works on Solaris
and linux.

There is more than one CORBA implementation in linux, and more than one
is carried with RH 7 distribution.
ANd KDE does CORBA too. :)
