if the locale is installed, there should be no problem, I guess. My machine has no zh_CN locale installed, I don't know whether I can install it under my own directory.
there is a tedious way that may make it. first, find SUNWxcmf(?) package from solaris install disks (software disk 2 if solaris 8). then extract it on your unix account, cpio, bz2..... extract all the song**.pcf.Z to song**.pcf transfer the files back to your PC, put hte fonts into the fonts diretory of your Xmanger or X-win32
those fonts come with XFree86 as default, you can just download them from XFree86 site.

according to what I read (sun's doc), sun paid for these fonts, so I am not sure if they are part of Xfree86. Anyway, I am not a big solaris fan and can't tell much about this thing.

I think they are free, they come with XFree86, at least all XFree86 I've ever installed. I'm not a big fan of Solaris either, although I have to use it most of the time. It's a weird OS, I would say, it does a lot of things differently from other unixes. I'm becoming a fan of FreeBSD now :)

The far east fonts package for X-Win32 works fine with me. I can use netscape to view Chinese through X-Win32. But, you need to make sure the server you connected through X-Win32 supports Chinese.
2 if solaris 8). of your Xmanger or X-win32 east外所有的字库,启动x-win32提示font

I am also using freeBSD. Sun treats its OS users worse than does M$.

估计就是因为学校的server不支持中文吧. 照着前面几位说的方法去改,却没成功,只好放弃:((

fortunately I don't have to stick on CDE, which is really stupid. I installed an OpenBox under my home directory instead. It's really a nice lightweight WM.
