刚收到小秘邮件通知1月23号春季入学，I-20下周才会发出。
1 在美国境内转身份不知道还来得及吗？（看到有人说春季入学会办理的快一点，有这
个说法吗？
2 如果开学前还没转成F1的话，是否就不能入学了还是怎样？

理论上博后做满每周40小时（或者在这边是35小时），就不应该再管他（她）业余的事
。实际上嘛，我还没tenure，暂时没法回答。

能宽容的话，就应该宽容一点。毕竟人家以后要找饭碗。从某种程度上说，这是私事。

Many students (RA) from China really do not understand what is meant by :

This also applys to Postdoc.
If a postdoc of mine (I do not have one) studies another master, I will look
down on him since he looks down on himself, and this also indicates that he is
not good at research in his fields.
This is similar to: a solider does not want to be a general is not a good solider. A postdoc does not want to become successful in his original field in research is not a good postdoc.

I did not mean to look down anyone. I meant that I would look down on my

我倒觉得postdoc只是一个职业，哪怕是全职，也不是all waking hours。
遇到以教职为目标的博士后当然很理想，但如果博士后另有人生规划，也真是他（她）
的自由。

I have to agree with you. People have different plan for their life. As long
as he/she gets the job done, there is nothing wrong with having alternative
plans.

In theory, postdoc is a full-time job that runs 9-5 on Mon-Fri. So as long
as his study has no time conflict with his job, he doesn't need your
agreement. But of course we all know we don't work by 9-5 Mon-Fri schedule.
Neither does a postdoc. Getting MS degree is very time-consuming, no matter
how capable he is.
If I were you, I would explain these to him and suggest not to do it,
because it will hamper his job performance. If he insists, I won't renew the
contract next time.

我觉得也应该是这样。postdoc就算是fulltime也绝不是朝9晚5的工作，只要正常的工
作进度不受影响，业余时间他/她爱干啥干啥去。就算真的上课时间在白天，晚上他/她
加班补回来还不行？做人不要太mean

另外一回事。多数公司，完全不鼓励学生修一个与本职工作无关的学位。
如果公司不同意，学生没法上白天的课，只能上晚上或周末的课。但有多少课是安排在

她开始独立研究的能力，申请 NSF 常要求写你的 post doc mentoring plan.
现在这个博后告诉你要读个Master, 这不 make sense, 这通常和你的项目的objective
都抵触， 赶快换人，想读master,没问题，就别趟博后这条路

我要是tenure了，这个postdoc也干了几年，有了贡献和感情，我就允了。
要不然，就走人。 我见过老外group里，有中国人进去一个月，跟老板说要修课，老板
利马让走人的。

或许TA突然发现那才是TA真正兴趣所在;
或许TA预见到自己在本专业太没前途;
