Sorry, I cannot type Chinese using company computer.
I am from a small biotech/diagnostic company in NW area. My current position
is more like a senior scientist with a few tech and scientists reporting to
me. We are a smaller company focusing on diagnostic service.
Now I have the option of switching to operation management. The company is
looking to expand the operation and R&D team. I have the chance to be one of
the three managers for our production team. I also have to chance to be the
R&D director that will be in charge of clinical trials and assay
development. At this moment, both positions will have 5 people reporting
directly. The R&D position manages BS, PhD, PharmD, and MD, while the
operation position manages BS technicians. In the future, I would expect the
production team much larger than the R&D team.
Pros and cons are in each position. The R&D director has higher title,
easier life, and capability of reporting to the COO directly. The operation
manager is reporting to operation director and then to the COO. In contrast,
operation manager seems to offer better transferable skills for future
career. I was doing R&D all the time. It is really hard to say whether the
operation manager is a suitable career.
I would appreciate if anybody can give me suggestions...
