A young ballerina, Claire, travels to Italy to audition for a prestigious opportunity. She flees in fear after discovering the merciless elimination process and meets Jason, young American who is also in Italy for business. While on a stroll they discover an old, beautiful house filled with dark mystery. This was the home of a ballerina also, long dead. Before long, secretive figures show up and imply that Claire is someone else. Under their influence she completely loses herself, forgetting her actual life and becomes the dead ballerina. Jason, very much in love with her, obsesses with Claire and tries to save her from her fate. This is more of a dark drama than a horror film but still an interesting film, dreamlike and mysterious.

I rewatched the movie Phenomena (extended cut) again last night. It is a very well made movie, much better than the US Blockbusters that have come out since (like Broken Arrow, which was on TV here last night, for example). The whole movie is so atmospheric, and Jennifer was in quite a few different, and well portrayed scenarios (from being a victim of bullying, to induced vomiting, to fighting with a demonic child underwater... just to mane a few). By the way in the extended cut, is there a copy which has the added scenes which are spoken in English as that, and not dubbed over in German with English Subtitles? It does slightly break up the pace of the movie, but I can handle that. All in all, it is a fantastic movie.

I don't know if many people know this, but a lot of her early movies were European based. This movie are among some that really had strong performances by the beautiful Jennifer. Phenomena (1985), Some Girls (1988) and this one have really well developed characters for her to play, much more sophisticated than most of her American "blockbuster" roles. Along with playing these really sophisticated roles, she was also in movies like 7 Minutes in Heaven (1985), Career Opportunities and The Rocketeer, both of which were released in 1991. Movies like these concentrated more on her look, just to give the audience eye candy. The Hot Spot did try to balance it a bit, by trying to give her a strong character, with those infamous scenes used to spice up things a bit. But generally, the European movies really showed her in a stronger level of maturity and strength of character than her American made movies went anywhere near to portray, at the tender age that she was at the time.

Swan lake meets Phantom of the Opera. Very labyrinth and intelligent and dark beauty in its delivery of performances especially by Ms. Jennifer Connelly who is gifted and exquisite and of course extremely talented she had to be here and in a later years the picture with Mr. Russell Crowe in which she won an Oscar in: 'A Beautiful Mind'. Even in the most archaic and perplexing story lines which can be hard to follow and the plot because its seems all over the place yet its definitive in it message, a good actor will take such a script (even a bad one) and create something fantastic and possibly memorable. That is Ms. Connelly, thru and thru. But I never seen this movie before thanks for the upload [] [] [] , Indeed, I agree with a comment she had a sort of Ms. Brooke Shields going in with the thick hair , her height and the thick eyebrows. However, in some respects , in her early pictures reminds me of a young lass, a fresh innocent face of absolute beauty like a very young Ms. Elizabeth Taylor in a way....minus the beautiful violet eyes.
Connelly's eyes also beautiful too. Of course ,I love Ms. Taylor for her confidence beauty talent, outspoken nature and non apologetic approach to life, her tireless efforts to help others like raising money for AIDS research, no one can never replace hMs. Elizabeth in beauty and grace.
Hence, I am feeling that energy and charisma from Ms. Connelly in the still pictures when younger and in the movie I just watched period. Well done to the other actors, and i embraced all. Thank you for this lost treasure and stay healthy. []
