Miniseries detailing the life of Dwight D. Eisenhower, who commanded American forces during World War II, romanced his driver Kay Summersby and later became President of the United States. During World War II, General Dwight D. Eisenhower serves as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe. On a personal level, he has an extramarital affair with his driver Kay Summersby.

Lee Remick’s portrayal of Kay Summersby is nothing short of ludicrous.
movie...admired his decision making and diplomacy..served in the Philippines before world war 2...

This movie is more about Kay Summersby and the personal relationship to Eisenhower than Eisenhower's actual work as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe. It's a good love story

One would think that in a series lasting 4 and a half hours they would emphasis a little more on historical accuracy. There were numerous issues not according to history. Yes I realize that authors of books and makers of movies more often than not take creative license but this pictures one of the most significant events in history that shaped the entire future of mankind and thus it should be the goal for any director or producer to make it as realistic as possible. In this series Eisenhower is shown to be this dashing loud mouthed all American hero which in fact wasn't so and I'm sure the Eisenhower himself would be the first to agree with me. He was in fact a very reserved man who spoke firmly but softly. He never raised his voice in delicate diplomatic situations as he was shown to have done with Churchill and other historical figures. Further more he didn't make Patton commander of 3rd Army when and where he is shown in this series but instead used Patton as a decoy for the Germans before and throughout the invasion and Patton didn't know of his new command until the invasion was already done and over with and Eisenhower needed a commander to break the stalemate in France after the invasion was completed. Just like that there were a number of inaccuracies which get's the viewer who doesn't have historical knowledge to get a completely different picture of actual events. This series looked more like something of a propaganda piece turning Ike into a hero that he was not. A great commander with exceptional diplomatic skills that was able to inspire loyalty in those that served under him and later on he was no doubt a great president. But a hero? I'm sure he wouldn't agree with that. The true heros were those young boys who went to fight over there not having the slightest clue what they were really fighting for and left their lives in Europe, it's those that fought there and didn't come back. You can see their names inscribed in markers on endless fields of grave markers all over Europe. But thanks for posting this, if nothing else it was certainly entertaining

I'd never seen this before. Aside from the cheesy montages, it was very well done. The scene at 2:49:58 was very impressive. I think the B-25s were just left over from the Harrison Ford movie, "Hannover Street" and the inclusion of so many C-47s might be leftovers from "A Bridge Too Far"?

Robert Duvall was perfect as Eisenhower.... Lee Remick was also amazing, such a brilliant actress and a real beauty .... Gregory Peck would have added to the film. God Bless America... what would Britain have done without you ... we will always be eternally grateful...love the United States of America and always will [] ?

Story goes....Ike's car stalled, his female driver, got out and checked under the hood. After some time Eisenhower, got out to check on her progress....as she was just looking at the engine......Ike looked for the repair kit. He asked her "you want a screwdriver"......without missing a beat she replied.... "yea, might just as well.....this car's not going anywhere for a while"

I understand that Ike had a Love affair with Ms. Summersby but I am saddened that this mini-series spent so much time with that as opposed to the other major acts Ike was involved with. Makes me rather sad for Mamie as the unloved wife on the side.

I've never understood the glorification of Eisenhower. He coddled Montgomery, lengthened the war with his approval of Market Garden, let the Russians take Berlin & cement the subjugation of the people of Eastern Germany and Europe, failed to see the buildup by the Germans in the Bulge, failed to allow Patton to take ground that would have shortened the war & also did not allow him to move in Czechoslovakia which put those people under the Soviet thumb as well. The man made too many mistakes and even though we won the war it was not commanded properly and should have been under command of a combat soldier not a ill promoted staff officer which is what Ike really was.

They don’t make movies like this anymore!. I get that new movies are more accurate as to what happened but in my opinion, new movies don’t have great actors like Duvall any more. Maybe saving private Ryan but more often or not , the acting in war movies now a days is atrocious and has you falling asleep half way through. This is a very long mini series and I instantly went looking for Ike the post war years but none to be found. I could honestly watch stuff like this for days and wouldn’t be bored one iota

Ukraine is living this injustice and pain..whatever the political game's that are being played behind the scenes..let's do absolutely everything in our power to help Ukraine just get back it's sovereign state..and then let's help them and more importantly, Russia, throw out those that are simply in place to advance their own political and financial gains..l know, idealistic...so, let's just back up and at least make sure that Ukraine get's nothing more than thier own country back...that can't be wrong in anyone's book...Slava Ukraine..

Was thinking this was a romantic comedy, but Burt Reynolds did not have a role. Then thought...wait, it's a comedy. But no Don Rickels. Then I was thinking that I am just wasting 4 hrs. But in the end....I realize that I actually wasted 4 and a half. Oh well. Ok movie, but the editing and the script was awful. Good acting, but terrible direction .
