I am in my fifth year at Big Four now, very likely to be promoted to manager
next year. However, I decided to see what kind of job I can get outside
public accounting a couple of months ago and recently got an offer from a
small VC/PE firm, with similar salary as a manager at Big Four. So I am no
facing a very hard decision now, to stay at Big Four for a few more months
and get the manager title or to leave now for the new job in the PE/VC world?

Well, it is really a hard decision.
If I were you, I will wait two more years. Even though two years later when
you get out of Big four, you still get a manager position in the industry as
you will have now. The only difference is that you will never be downgraded
to senior position in any industries.

I would recommend you ask yourself "Do you like what you are doing right now? Do you think what you are doing will assist you to obtain your long-term career goal? Do you want to change your career to PE(Private Equity)/VC (Venture Capital)?"

what are you going to do in the PE firm? fund accountant?
from the context of your post, the new job does not seem to be a managerial
position though it has a competive salary...if that is a fact I would
recommend continueing with big4 for the promotion next year, as you do not
want to start from scratch in a new company to get over that hurdle when you
see it happening in your current job in a few months..
you'd also consider your long-term career goal as well as your interest, as
far as i know

in the future. If you don't make to mananger in big 4 but leave, you proply

I would stay until you get promoted. Easy to get a manager job with higher
salary in industry after you get promoted.

my ex-manager who left the firm as first year manager. He told me the
opportunity/salary is much better for the manager than for the experienced
senior.
With raise/bonus/everything, he got almost 100% raise compared to his salary
in the firm. It is possible as he may get 30% bonus.

I would say stay on until after you get the promotion.
With your current background you'll probably be able to get into banking as
an AVP or associate. If you wait for two more years in Big four you have a
decent shot at VP in an IB. However if you leave now and join a small PE/VC,
your background will be treated less favorablly and your chance of getting
VP is even smaller.
Big difference is that you won't get much managerial experience in a small
PE/VC firm. But as a big four manager people wo

I don't think the main issue is the size of his prior VC or our firm. The
issue is that his return is due to the poor performance of the finanical
industry. There is GAP for the public accounting career.
