I just started a tenure track Assistant Professor position at a college.
Before that, I was holding a postdoctoral position in a university. My
present employer filed the petition of the H-1B transfer; it has been
approved not too long ago (this is the second year I am on H-1B). However,
the new H1B status is only valid till 05/06/2011, which is the last day of
my first year contract. (In my school, each assistant professor's contract
is renewed annually before tenure.) My question is the following: Is it
possible now to extend the date of the validity of my new H1B status
provided that a letter stating that I am on a tenure track position and my
contract is renewed annually is given by the President of the College? If so
, does the school have to file another H1B petition for me? Any suggestions
and comments will be appreciated.
