first year ap, top 50 public university
上个月做了annual review，前两天chair给我看了他的信，找我谈了谈，据说是tenure
track上的必经程序。
我的research和其他方面都是exceptional，但就是student teaching evaluation
below average。
NND,现在只有第一个学期的evaluation，我还觉得八错了, 3.77。可chair说系里的平
均是4.2,很多老师都是5,满分呢！
真的吗？大家的evaluation都有那么高吗？

在我的OPT期间, 我在同学的一个Start-up小公司做volunteer, 现在回国签证, 请问我
是说volunteer还是unpaid intern. 因为我同学的公司不是non-profit, 所以好象说
volunteer不太合适. 听说OPT期间只能在non-profit organization做volunteer. 是不
是这样? 谢谢!

有人用HTML5和Flash分别做了一个同样的动画，这个动画显示Flash的效能更高。
结果很快有人发现这个HTML5是poorly written
很快有人写出同样的动画但是速度更快
配合Javascript之后更是多个球也很快。
当然HTML5的canvas效能可能总体目前还是不如Flash的速度的。
但是总体来说大部分flash绝对比HTML5网页更消耗资源
只要在Mac上用过flash的都知道flash是多么低效。
最初的作者还说“Adobe不断raising the bar”，太可笑了。Adobe把Bar提升了这么久
自己还这么烂？我看这个作者就是拙劣的coder，只能靠Flash工具来写点动画，要动手
用HTML5来写就写的一团糟。

我自己的测试结果是
说Flash更快的作者做的HTML5在我的3GS上的表现是17fps
我列出来的三个改进版的FPS分别是
30-34fps
40-42fps
40-42fps
几乎每个都比Flash支持者做的快一倍以上。
看来很多人说Flash作者一般都是Bad coder不是空口无凭了。
Flash什么时候能够一下子改进一下增加一倍的性能？！

不是吧？research school当然是reseach最重要吧？
当然也架不住我们这种middle rank的学校，teaching, research什么都要，学生质量
又不能保证，活活把老师累死！

甭管他们。3.77很不错了，而且有上升空间。如果你一开始就是5，以后一旦退步了就
不好了。表面上对领导要尊重，虚心就可以了，再笑笑，领导也高兴

QQLive etc, not any more!

flash sites. Are they all dead?
It doesn't matter who is better, it's the market share that matters. The old
ugly dianosaur called IE 6&7 are still occupying more than 25% of the
browser market. Can you believe it?
Steve job will be dead before flash, that's for sure. 丫有种把flash从Mac OS
X踢出去啊？丫敢吗？

是的，呵呵。
我毕业的时候攒了好几篇paper，拿到工作的时候稿子都投出去了，第一年就光剩修改
了。

但这些都是我来了半年以后才发表的，affliation都是写的现在学校的名字，当然算的！
所以有人告诉我publication是cash，不管时间地点，以后都跟着你的，但teaching就
不样了。
听听大家的看法。

教主倒是想啊，osx也没有个app store 不是
flash现在是后娘养的，没法子，当年在MM的时候多好，三剑客，现在是DW,FW都要死球
了，flash也迟早要被Adobe玩死
关于市场占有率问题，只跟比尔和教主的钱包有关，跟我们用户没啥关系，有个很好的
比方：

这是正解。一开始不好后来有很大提高，比一开始做得太好后来变差，要好得多。

平均4.2很正常，第一学期3.77不算差。拿5分的应该是很小的班，或者是研究生课。本
科生25人以上的课想全是5，太难了。
不过你对学生的态度的确应该调整一下。top 50 public school是PSU/UT Austin/
Wisconsin这一档次的学校了，学生素质应该还不错，你大概的确需要在自己这边找找
原因。

我的课enrollment是全系最高的，全都注满了，每次课后， office hours人都是满满
的，当然大多数都是来讨论课上他们没懂的问题。
对于第一年的annual review我一点都不担心。chair虽然指出我teaching不足，但他一
直再说我是他见到的第一年里performance最好的ap,还经常在系里开玩笑说我是系里的star。
我就不多说，免得有人觉得我BSO。我发帖子只是想和大家探讨一下teaching，因为以
前身边都是top school, top program的老师和学生。而且以前学校真的是大家都在拼命的比拼
publication。有一年招新人，系主任把我们几个graduate student叫去，问我们对candidate
的看法。我们正对几个candidate的教学能力讨论得热火曹天呢，系主任直接就cut off topic, 说
we don't care about teaching，当时就把我们雷晕了。
现在到这个学校确实有个过渡。我的态度和教学方法确实需要调整！

你原帖确实有点point fingers，rating不好就拿什么学生质量不行出来说事，你同事
也教的是这样的学生，为什么人家的rating好呢？到了后来你补充那段，更是通篇洋
溢着自己以前是top school top program的优越感，比原帖更加越描越黑。
有些回帖，话糙理不糙，你就光觉着火药味浓了，没有半点反省自己的意思。我本来前

For example, are these video websites supporting both Flash and Silverlight?
Are they also supporting WMV, AVI, DivX, MKV, Real?
Unfortunately, they all only support Flash and HTML5 video.
If it is not Apple, they will never support HTML5. And their support for
HTML5 video means Apple did not lose anything. Adobe lost at least something.

只要在Mac上用过flash的都知道flash是多么低效。

It is the truth. Apple is the leader in HTML5 implementation.
Webkit has the most and best HTML5 support among all web browsers. iOS is
the first mobile OS that pushes for HTML5. These are enough evidence.

it is okay Safari stuck at 5%
as long as webkit continue to grow.
Also open source, Mozilla's gecko has never seen such wide adoption by
different venders. Google, RIM, Sumsung, Amazon and more are all using
webkit.

What makes you draw conclusion that flash only sites are dead? Just because
a few popular sites starts to support html5? Last time I checked, hulu is
still flash only. Are they dead? Thank god you're not their CEO. Or their
investers probably already committed mass suicide.
The truth is, even for the so called html5 compatible sites like youtube. It

Yeah it's really a huge difference be it 0.0001% or 1%.
I never said flash is good. But it is far from dead, which you're claiming
falsely. Flash blocker is to block the content. I'm sure when html5 flashy
ads floating around all over the web crawling up you CPU, it will be as bad
as flash. There will surely be html5 animation/video blockers.
