刚收到第一个月的工资，我是春季学期开始的。发现工资比预想的少很多。去问系
主任，结果竟然是。他们把总的年薪按学年算，秋季一半，春季＋暑假一半，暑假
没有钱，所以从一月到八月，只有一半的年薪分成八分，所以每个月的工资就比如果
从秋季开始少了一千多。结果拿到手里的和博士后工资差不多。而我现在的房租贵了
将近一被
我觉得很郁闷。可是也么有什么理由去争论，因为他们就怎么发钱的。感觉他们应该
早就给我解释清楚，害得我租房字都租贵了，医疗保险也买的是最贵的。
有没有人遇到过这样的情况？我除了接受现实，还有什么可以做的吗？

这是YN Jan的组啊
话说，这个是我大四/研一时候想做的一个project...而且出发点估计和他们差不多都
是直接从ref.9来的（非直接的出发点当然很明显）。当时要是真去做了可能早就发了
哈哈哈

就是6个月的钱分到8个月发，很正常，总额没少。你的start-up没有暑假工资么？

我们这里是10个月的工资平均到12个月发，如果有了GRANT暑假的第一个月会收到非常
大的一个CHECK（将近三个月工资一次发放）
又没有少给你钱，有啥好争的么？

yes, but i didn't know they wouldn't' divided the total salary by 12, but
only half by 8.
The whole thing is a bit unfair, I am underpaid in comparison to my
colleagues who start in he Fall. For example, if i leave in August after
working for 8 months, I will make the same total amount as I leave after 4
months in the Fall.
This divided by 8 makes my salary as low as my postdoc salary. I do have
summer salary. But they only take effect in the summer. I only negotiated
one month's salary for 3 months in the summer.

OK this is why it is unfair:
1. If i work from September and December and leave the university, they will
pay me 45K.
2. If i work from September to August (2014), they will pay me 90K.
3. If i work from jan to August 2014, 8 months, I will still only receive
45K.

你postdoc的工资可不低啊，呵呵

I got a fellowship and the tax is little.
But the city i used to live is way much cheaper.

academic salary本来就是两个semester或者是三个quarters的，暑期的不算（暑期不
是required的）。
暑期你不是为学校工作，除非你暑期教课或者是grant里面的收入。
所以从你Jan to August,你要除去暑假的时间，因为那不是required的，暑假随便你干
嘛，就像前面说的，教课或者是grant，所以你总数没有少啊。。到手的都一样的。。

你不会是文科faculty吧？
你不是有暑假startup么，假设是20k，那么Jan- Aug，你可以拿到45+20=65k
又不会少了你的，就是原来4.5个月的工资分到8个月发而已

你才上班一个月怎么在search committee里干了几次了？
如果是跳槽faculty那薪水有点低啊

工资怎么发应该是orientation的时候hr的人负责讲的，你是不是没有参加？
其他的老师或者系主任什么的都不会跟你讲这个的，不是他们的责任

那就是你没orientation, 统一的orientation都是在秋季的，经常好几天，各种政策都
要讲到，你这个大概就找重要的说了说。
我们是可以选26还是22个paycheck, 反正都是年薪，其实没什么区别

plus this is not the topic of this thread. I just want to know if there is
anyone starting in the spring semester and have the similar pay schedule as
I did.

But this won't affect people who start in the FALL. It is only affecting me
because I started in Jan.
It depends on how you think about it. If have started in September and Have
left in December, I would have made the same amount of money as I worked
from Jan to August. I still think it is somewhat unfair, especially I based
on my renting, health insurance decisions on assuming the salary would be
the same as I started in the fall.

The rent is two times of my postdoc rent. I am serious. If the HR have told
me, I will sign up for a cheaper apartment. And as you know, when you first
move to a place, there are lots to spend to get settled.

我怎么觉得lz有点玻璃心了。一般学校的九个月（或十个月）薪水就是给你教课的报酬
，暑假的薪水由grant支付，所以你春季开始，拿一半的报酬不很正常吗？有的学校会
把薪水分到12个月来发，为的是怕你暑假找不到grant，一分钱也没的进帐。要是有
grant的话，暑假薪水会多出一大截。在lz的case，因为是一月份开始，把这半年薪水
分到半年＋暑假来发放，再正常不过了。难道lz秋季没上班，还期望拿到秋季的工资不
成？我想要是楼主5月开始，那一个月的薪水也会分3 个月来发放的。要是楼主summer
有钱，到时拿到一大笔工资，不挺好的吗？要是summer没钱，我很难想象楼主宁愿
summer两三个月一点工资都不拿，除非lz打算summer就走人拜拜。要是这种打算，lz要
及早跟学校讲清楚，学校应该会把那分摊到summer的薪水提前给你的。反正我觉得the
campus is not at fault here.

Sorry for spelling errors.
I offer what I know here in this board. People can take and leave. Our
school is in a stage of growing. So I happen to be participating since the
day 1 I started. Nothing so special and strange in my opinion.
