Two stories:
First, a follow up after this

So, I thought I came out unscratched from Amex FR. I didn't lose any card
but I realized that I am far from unscratched. I happened to need to call
Amex several times after the FR. I noticed that everytime the rep greeted me
with "you are on a recorded line", which wasn't the case in the past.
Finally there was a time that I need them to move a credit from one card to
another. I was told by the rep that I need to be transfered to customer
service so that they can help me. Wait, shouldn't be customer service
picking up the phone? The rep said they are account service, not customer
service. After I was transfered to a customer rep, I ask her why my phone
call was handled by account service first, not customer service. She said
she doesn't know. Normally Amex does this for the ones who has past dues so
that they are handled by the specialty team. Then I realized that although I
passed the FR, I am still being watched, maybe closely, like those who has
past dues, and I am recorded everytime I call in. This makes me wanting to
say shit. SHIT. No VR purchased from CVS in the next month for sure....
My takeaway: don't just focus on passing the Amex financial review. That was
what I thought. It's more important to AVOID it.
Here's a happier story. A friend of mine jumped on the deal of Amex Biz gold
card. Despite my advice of going slow, he met 5k purchase within a week
with 5 trips to CVS. On Saturday I learned that he was FR'ed by Amex after
his last purchased and had his Biz Gold card closed (by himself with Amex
threatening). Of course I told him I told you so. He called me today and
told me 75k points posted on his account after the account was closed.
Normally it shouldn't post that
quickly and closed card would killed it. But somehow he got the points. If
there is an award for lucky bastard of the year, I'd nominate him. Haha.
Does push your luck to get the same outcome. It normally takes weeks for the
points to post.
