We are seeking a Senior Information Scientist for a one year contract
opportunity in Worcester, MA with a large pharmaceutical/biotech company.
Job Description:
The main responsibility for this position is to provide analysis for a
variety of large scale complex data, including Next-Generation Sequencing,
microarray, protein profiling, etc. Additionally, the Information Scientist
will be expected to contribute to data management and computational
infrastructure support within the group.
Responsibilities:
· Taxonomy Development Design of organization, labeling, navigation
, and indexing systems to support both browsing and searching (including the
development and management of controlled vocabularies and thesauri)
· Analyze metadata available in content collections to determine
vocabulary compatibility or convertibility, enhancements, and integration of
metadata needed to support good information accessibility
· Refine metadata and/or workflow process for various applications
· Supervise implementation of appropriate content attributes in the
content management, portal or website production environment
· Evaluate and select appropriate software relevant to metadata,
controlled vocabulary, and other information retrieval solutions
· Working knowledge of traditional library cataloging and digital
library metadata standards, such as MARC and Dublin Core
· Outreach and Customer Service. Establish strong service-oriented
relationships with clients, including keeping clients informed about
progress and issues, aiding project development, maintaining a clear
understanding of clients’ and business issues and objectives, identifying
changes in project scope, addressing quality assurance issues, and
communicating client concerns to project manager and technical members of
project team
· Train, supervise and advise content authors and owners in their
classification of web content and use of taxonomy tools
Qualifications:
· PhD or Master’s in bioinformatics, computational biology or
biological sciences with strong quantitative background (Undergraduate
degree may be considered with extensive NGS data analysis background)
· Experience in bioinformatics/genomic research
· Proficient coding skills in R and an additional programming
language such as Perl or Python and comfortable doing data analysis in a
Linux environment
· Hands on analysis of Next-Generation sequencing data and
microarray data
· Familiar with popular bioinformatics software and R packages such
as BWA, Bowtie2, TopHat2, SAMtools, VarScan, GATK, DESeq2, ggplot2 and etc
· Candidates with working experience with relational database (
MySQL or PostgreSQL) or frontend programming (JavaScript/HTML/CSS) is a plus
