Technically CO2 EOR or CSS are proven techniques at suitable conditions.
However, a viable project not only depends on technology, but many other
issues.
(1) geopolitical: how the carbon credit will work for CO2 EOR or CSS?
(2) logistics: where is the CO2 source/end user/pipelines?
(3) HSE: will the formation/faults still be rigid in CO2 stress (both
pressure and acidization), what is the leak-off risk?
(4) Screening: which reservoirs/formations are the proper candidate and why?
what is the cost of a study, drilling new wells, converting wells? Are
producers fine to be converted into injectors (steel grade in CO2 which is
reactive with high pressure)?
(5) surface facility: where is the gas pumps/compressing stations? how much?
(6) artificial lift: any change of existing gas lifting pumps installed?
special requirements.

The actual effectiveness varies a lot across fields. Operational issues
need to be straight out regardless simulation results. Long time monitoring
program still lacks (many facets and steel will be subjective to failures
in 20-30 yrs and CO2 may make it happen earlier and more severe)
