NSF CAREER proposal: withdraw collaboration letter
I was called to withdraw one collaboration letter, the manager thought it
tasted like 'recommendation letter'. How should I do? Any suggestions?

No, this email was not from the manager, but from a science assistant in NSF.

NSF does NOT allow "letter of recommendation", but accept " letter of
collaboration".
Apparently, your letter sounds more like a "letter of recommendation" than a
"letter of collaboration", and it SHOULD be withdrawn. If you do not
withdraw it, I would guess your proposal may be rejected without review.

No i have seen many more 'recommendation' letters - this one was templated
from a collaboration letter with a funded grant. I will perhaps withdraw it
, but this is definately a warn to other young faculty here - be careful
with your collaboration letter.

I had the same situation before. But you can't argue with them. And, in fact
, I don't think the letter carries that much weight anyway. so, your
proposal won't be ruined by this.

不会有什么影响的，放心。
不过话说写这个信的确要很注意，我们RESEARCH OFFICE的人再三强调不要写成推荐信
，一定要有详细的合作方的实力情况（实验设备，理论背景）和具体合作事项（研究合
作项目，定期交流，交换学生，共同写文章申请专利等等），双方如何雪中送炭一拍即
合水乳交融如胶似漆干柴烈火。
说到底，就是要证明你跟合作者是恋人的关系，而不是证明你是个好人。是情书，不是
好人卡。

今天我也中招了。PM让我把所有collaboration letter改短，除了具体要合做什么以外
，就连介绍合作人背景和实验条件的话也不能说。改短了以后，合作信也就成了个橡皮
图章了。好在我在proposal正文里简略介绍了一下合作人。

NSF should follow NIH,
put these introduction into Biosketch.
the collaboration letter is a formality, reviewers won't spend time reading
them anyway.
