楼主目前是H1B身份，今年秋季开始读PHD. PHD有assistantship， contract是8月1号
开始。目前还没有申请H1B转F1.
今天收到国际学生办公室的信说，According to the terms of your assistantship,
you are scheduled to begin work august 1, 2013. It is highly unlikely that
USCIS will have granted the change of status by then. You should notify you
department of this possibility. You will not be able to start work until the
change of status is granted.
change of status is granted 是不是就是指F1被appove了？那在没granted之前，是
不是不会收到学校stipend？那么本来assistantship是cover学费的，这个又有什么影
响？
请懂的帮忙指教！！谢谢。
另外在考虑去第三国签证，有没有去年或者今年第三国转F1签证成功的可以说下经验？

but to me, a bit too good/dramatic to be true...I have no doubt the
hypothesis/conclusion likely will stand but
I would think that the dramatic effects resulted from ER in these cancer
models is by far too good from what
many would expect...
Anyway, here is one of most interesting/amazing papers lately

我原来不相信有神，后来相信了。
我原来对圣经里关于魔鬼附身一事，持怀疑态度。这几天，我在这个版上转了一圈，我
开始相信了。只恨我不会赶鬼。我只能为他们祷告。
这几天，我对圣经的真实性也更加坚固了。感谢神！

I have the same feeling: too good to be true.
i do not know other labs can repeat it or not.
BTW, the first author already got a PI position in NY.

去第三国签证(or do it in China) if you can, it's not looking good for H1-F1
COS to be approved in less than 2 months before the fall deadline to
register.

it's very interested paper and i am curious how to set up a ER model for
mice, since the birth day the mice have been raised in cage, more feed, more
clean, or broadcast the Mozart that's the ER?

pretty easy and well practiced in mouse facility and in particular in adult
neurogenesis, and neurobehavior
labs...Yes, people do broadcasting Mozart to mice, I am not kidding...In
fact, the PI of this paper was studing
ER and neurogenesis, I think that's where this paper originated...very much
make sense and likely shall be
practiced more in clinics..., but I couldn't be more stunned with the
cleaniness and linearity of the
data/results...I couldn't wait to repeat this if I had my own lab now..

I am thinking what if they put some well established cancer mouse model into
their EE cage to test the effect.

俺有一点negative的comment：
俺们现在的老鼠都是养在小笼子里的，already overfed, too few motor activity(尤
其是rat，mouse还好一点),还有可怕的单调环境。他们的behavior，physiology早就是
不健康的了。几年前，Alzheimer field一个有点名气的group，Sisoda SS lab，发了
一个类似的Cell paper, 讲Enrivoment Enrichment可以reduce Abeta formation, 抑
制Alzheimer disease发生。

for the EE cage, money should not be an issue, but the total cage space will
be huge. The animal facility will not allow us to occupy so much room.

我觉得这个研究很有启发啊，就类似前一阵子的那个肌肉鼠差不多，就是
从分子角度做生理学。
先由环境来改变生理，然后倒推着找出具体哪个分子途径是被改变了，
然后再从分子水平来证实。
不过，我希望有别人来重复这些文章。这些文章的结果虽然很美妙，但是
有点too good to be true 了。因为从直觉上来说，似乎优厚的生活条件
能改变很多因素，不太可能那么特异的改变一个途径吧？

the cell paper you talk is a lot easier than this one...BTW I am just
posting this paper for discussion...I am
trying to be critical but have no negative or positive altitude on it...
BTW, For sure, the caging is problematic and that's why fernado(bird song
) from Rockfeller saying cage is a
boring place and he studies wild bird....nonetheless, EE is indeed needed
for human as well, today's word is
not an EE at least for many many people...

有些报复心强的大牛，甚至会向主编要来你的名字，然后以后慢慢修理你。
我老板现在是一旦看到某些大牛的文章被主编投过来审阅的话就装病或者说
没有时间。

that's good. haha. I am a little bit positive to this paper and her new
career. My extra point is that it may be dependent on the type of cancer.

Cell press is a company right? Editors, especially editor in chief have
the right to publish a paper regardless of the 3 negative reviewers. This
paper is not the first one, and will not be the last one.

there is a new paper in the latest Nature Protocol describing this EE cage.
当年我们投稿也被人报复了,不过倒没有浪费很多时间, 因为editor直接退稿. 郁闷的
是, 我老板也是editor. 所以明确知道是谁因为什么事情报复.
