Postdoctoral Fellow Openings
UCLA Materials Science and Engineering Department
Polymer and nanocomposite syntheses,
solution-based coating, thin film devices
The Soft Materials Research Laboratory directed by Professor Qibing
Pei in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, UCLA,
is an interdisciplinary research group developing synthetic polymers
and nanocomposites for stretchable electronics, electromechanical, and
photonic devices. We anticipate availability of multiple postdoctoral
openings to develop dielectric elastomers for muscle-like actuation,
stretchable polymer electronics, and solution-based coating of polymeric
and nanomaterials.
Required qualifications include:
1. PhD in polymer science, materials chemistry, mechanical
engineering, chemical engineering, or related fields;
2. Strong hands-on experience in several of these fields: materials
development, synthesis of nanocomposites (e.g. graphene
nanocomposites), synthesis of conjugated polymers, nanomaterial
processing, polymer coating, solution processing of carbon
nanotubes and graphene, printing, slot die coating, soft polymer
actuator design and fabrication, thermal materials, characterization
of thermal conductivity;
3. Strong communication skill and interpersonal skill.
The appointment is initially for 1 year, and may be extended for up
to 3 years. Interested candidates may contact Professor Qibing Pei at
