my son's passport will expire next year and we need it to travel to China
this year. But the picture on the passport was taken when he was about 1-
year old. Now he is about 4.5-year-old and the difference between the
picture and his current appearance is obviously, huge. Will there be any
trouble for him to enter the US customs when we return?

my son's passport photo was taken when he was 15 months old, i took him
back to China twice, when he was 2 and near 4 years old, no questions asked.

the day u guys come back needs to be at least 6 months prior to the
expiration date of his passport.

Another issue of my son is that he's much taller than his peers, he looks
like he's about 5 or 6 years old, which makes him look even less alike the
baby on the passport. For other cases, this is something I can BSO, but not
for this case. :)

Should be fine.
My son's picture on passport was taken when he was 2 month-old. Now he is
about 5. Of course he looks much different than picture on passport. We had
a trip back to China. The officers (out of US and Into US, both ways) ask
him the following questions:
1. What's your last name
2. How old are you
My son answers the question without problem.
For the 1st trip when he was 2 year-old, he wasn't asked any questions...I
think officer will figure out when to ask and what to ask a little
