本可不是这个专业，来美读博只好读这个相近专业。在这之前，我在structural
analysis, structual dynamics 有很强的背景，但由于毕竟不是土木工程结构专业，
所以在structual design方面有所欠缺。来美之后，我上过reinforcement concrete
design and seismic design等几门设计课，由于我的博士研究方向与这些设计没太大
关系，所以没有时间上更多的设计课，我个人能力上，再多上几门是没问题的，但没时
间啊。
后来我旁听了bridge design , prestressed concrete design.
不知道这两门课对我这个博士找工作重要吗？非得上，旁听行吗？
主要是找工作的问题，我不太想做结构设计方面的工作，这不是我的强项阿，而且，公司一般也不会招phd做设计方面的事情，硕士一大把的。我在有限元结构分析上经验比较丰富。
我今后在职业上如何发展呢？什么样的公司适合我呢？
大侠们支招吧？

你既然不想做结构设计，那选不选就无所谓了。

公司一般也不会招phd做设计方面的事情，硕士一大把的。我在有限元结构分析上经验
比较丰富。

你要是想找结构方面的工作，设计还是至少要了解一些，既然你有限元方面比较强，就
找结构有限元分析的工作咯，PAY得也比一般结构设计的好。

就是你前面说的，比如结构动力分析这方面，需求还是挺多的。

I strongly recommend you to take these design courses if you can. They are
essential for a structural engineer. Even if you are not going to work as a
structural designer, you will benefit a whole bunch from studying these
courses.
If you really want to be selective, I would recommend you to skip Bridge
Design and take Prestressed Concrete. Prestressed structures is a very
important concept in modern structural engineering field. You MUST know
what it is.

I've already audit(show on the class) the prestress concrete (PC)desing
class last term. So, I've already know what's PC design. I just didn't do
the homework and didn't take the exams.
The problem is, need I register this class and re-start it again?

It won't hurt. But since you have already audited these courses, it may not
worth the time. I think if you already took Steel and Concrete design
classes, PC and Bridge design are not that important.

Steel design is a undergraduate course offered for Junior here. Before I
took reinforce concrete design, I audit this Steel Design class. Then I took
the Reinforce Concrete Design and Seismic Design for my qualifying exam.
After that, my phd credits are almost enough. That's why I didn't continue
to take more design courses.
If my phd credits is still not enough , I will definitely take these bridge and
prestress courses.

If you are not going to become a structural designer, you are probably ok

I want to be a structural analysist either in dynamics or statics. I can do
nonlinear dynamical analysis.

是的，博士在工业界一般是overqualified. 呵呵，但我亲眼见过一个公司里面去年招了一个结构的博士生，不过是美国人，呵呵。

you can do structural dynamic or vibration analysis under seismic or wind
load. Normally, nolinear won't be involved in structural design.

Quite a few top-notch US structural engineering firms do not mind Ph.D.'s at
all. To give you a few names:
Weidlinger, Thornton Tomasetti, Walter P Moore, etc.

对本行业的了解方面，还真得前辈指教指教。不像EE行业的公司，比如INTEL，
microsoft那么如雷贯耳。结构或者土木方面的大公司我压根儿就不知道几个好的。前
不久我才知道KPFF是很不错的，而且还是同办公室的印度人告诉我的。
主要是脱离了中国文化，到了美国得从新认识这个行业和圈子。

楼主要是编程水平不弱的话，也可以考虑去有限元软件开发商那里吧，比如ANSYS之类
的。
这年头得熟悉c++。估计光会Fortran是不够的。
