The 19 compositions on the soundtrack album -- all arranged, composed,
and produced by Nyman -- include everything from subtle piano pieces
to sweeping scores featuring performances by the Munich Philharmonic
Orchestra. Describing the role of his music in the film, Nyman notes
"since Ada doesn't speak, the piano music doesn't simply have the
usual expressive role but becomes a substitute for her voice. The
sound of the piano becomes her character, her mood, her expressions,
her unspoken dialogu
