Hello, you all!
我刚开始学跳舞，在社区大学上了些latin group lessons。现在觉得在那学不到更多
的东西啦，想take private lessons. 请这里的舞林高手/脚们给些建议，该怎末选老
师呢？有什莫收费标准吗？本来只想学学玩儿的，学着学着就有点迷上跳舞啦，也很
锻炼身体的。请不吝赐教，先谢过！btw, I am a lady :)

If you just started, then I would not recommend you to take private lessons
right away, unless you got plenty of money, in which case, I would be more
than glad to teach you myself. (just kidding)
Maybe the guys or the teacher at the community college are not very good.
You can try to find a quality dance studio in your area, and take some group
lessons there. They usually have beginning, intermediate and advanced
classes, and you can learn more dances and steps there. If you still feel

在community college跳了快半年了，最近觉得学不到更多东西。听一个朋友说过一个
studio 叫Arthur Murray, 但必须注册private lesson 才能参加那里的group lesson
。好像是400块4堂private lessons，45分钟一堂课。我觉得有点小贵，所以来这里问
问。另外就是找什莫样的老师，嗯，俄国姓和口音，我会留意的。看来我是要去查查黄
页，多打听打听。
现在真的喜欢跳舞，虽然笨鸟又后飞，但总要试试才心甘呀。

I wouldn't recommend Arthur Murray. Most of their teachers are not very good
. Many of them became dance teachers by going through a few weeks of
training. There are two big dance studio franchises in America: Arthur
Murray and Fred Astaire. The latter is slightly better.
Go to an independent studio and find a teacher who is also a dancesport
competitor. Where do you live if you don't mine me asking?

i won't recommend Arthur Murray
it's a franchise.
though the quality varies from studio to studio,
i often hear bad things about them.

ask dancdance
they only do standard. but they might no good latin coach or studios.

Thank you, I will do more research on this.
Actually I want to learn some ballroom dance as well, just try to expose to
different styles and see what I really like.

鼓励一下。我也刚正式“飞”了半年。找到好老师是关键，不然领略不到authentic
taste of dances (which could be discouraging and cause you to drop early).

It is the Harper College on Algonquin Rd, you can go to their website to
find more information. Look up

The class in this semester just ended this week. You can register for the
coming spring semester, I
think they will start from mid Jan. For the group lessons, you don't have to
have a partner.

coming spring semester, I
think they will start from mid Jan. For the group lessons, you don't have to
have a partner.

A PHD isn't necessarily a bad elementary school teacher, but what you said
does make sense, thanks!
Guess I will find whoever I feel comfortable with and improve myself first.

I actually heard in some country (japan or singapore) it is encouraged to
get PhD to be kindergarten or elementary school teachers. The primary
education is crutial in the cognitive process of kids, from the perspective
of the science of education.
A similar point is: for a newly born baby, the time period of 1st year to
2nd year of their life is crutial for forming their personality and
developing their intelligence. Most people think if babies are fed and don't

RXX, if you are in nw chicago, the north ave. dance studio in villa park may
be your best bet. http://www.northavedancestudio.com/location/index.htm
although only competing in professional standard right now, they started in
10 dance and were us amateur 10 dance finalists and should be good enough
for you. try their group lessons first as sensualgirl suggested and if you
like it and want to invest even more, take privates with them. i don't know
how much they charge, but i'd guess around $70. in

$400 for 4 private lessons and as many group lessons as you wanna take. But
like people said, we do not know how professional the teachers are.
Checked the website, quite impressive to me, though it is a bit far away.

Id' say: it is more economical, but not necessarily effective in terms of
learning.
If your partner (a randomly picked one) is not good, it could affect your
learning badly. If you learn the steps and figures with your teacher, your
teacher is temporarily your partner in the private class; you then can
easily get the right postures and positions and steps and blah. If your
partner doesn't get the right way, it REALLY affects your learning.
