When a pro couple decide to dance for, say, Russia, do they have to get
permission from some ruling dancesport organization in Russia? Are there
quota for the number of pro couples who can represent a country? My guess is
no. I just remember reading somewhere, when slavik and karyna split and
found new partners, "if slavik couple dance for Russia, karyna couple will
dance for US", or something like that...
Just curious.

guess they have to get permission ba, they can not represent whatever they
want ya

sometimes, if the two partners are from different countries, then they can
represent either one of the two countries (or so I believe). for the US, if
neither person is from the US, then I believe they would have to live in the
US for one year before they could represent the US. Louis van Amstel and
Karina Smirnoff-ice were such a case.
Bryan Watson and Carmen used to dance for Germany. Neither of them is German
. The reason they danced for Germany was because Carmen used to dance with
Alan Torn
