本人文科生, 将来的工作离不开数据分析, 但很多工作也要求extract data from a
web database. 急问有哪些方法呢?
Also, does it depend on the file type that you will save the extracted data?

web database? never heard it. You must be talking web scrpaing; leanr some
perl or python first.

你好.可能我是按照自己的想法来表达的,所以表达不清. 举个例子吧,每个大学都有个
大的数据库, 管理学生信息,课程信息,教师信息等等, 让不同的部门调数据,做研究.
我要问的就是怎么从那个大数据库调数据? 那数据库不在我的PC上, 在学校的Web
Server上. 多谢帮助!

There are different ways: dedicate db connect; web services...

If you are talking about getting data from web pages, just try harvesting
those pages through HTTP connection in your code.
If you are talking about getting data through database objects such as SQL q
ueries or stored procedures, then you need to be able to connect to your uni
versity database.
I used to have access to all students info from our university data warehous

Yes, I am trying to learn how to get data from university data warehouse.
How did you access to your university data warehouse? What software did you
use? I want to get some idea of the interface for users to access data
warehouse. Does it mean if they are Oracle databases on the server, then
some Oracle tools will be installed on the client computer to let users
access the database; and if they are MS SQL Server databases on the server,
then some MS SQL Server tools will be installed on the cli

Today I learned how to use SAS and SPSS to access and query databases
through ODBC.
Could you please tell me any other ways to access and query databases?

I think the easiest way is use access as you have ODBC
or .net, java, asp, coldfusion, php.
or informatic, pervasive.......
As you can connect through ODBC,
For oracle, you can install oracle client then use TOAD(not free) or SQL
developer
For sql server, install one on your pc
For mysql, use TOAD(free)
..................
