There is a inerview asking what should be considerred if one want to start-up
a small .com company by using MS .net and SQL server.
I can only list the following. Let's try together to make it a complete list,
maybe anyone will be asked such questions or will run a real .com company.
[1] 1-machine plan - Having Windows Small Business Server (Std Edition)
installed with Web Services and SQL Server (Std. Edition) =
(1) $machine cost to rent + $5,000 (at a minimum for at least ONE
processor) +

I have considered this for a long time.
1. Make sure your busienss is profitable.
2. Find a Hosting company. It's always cheap. You can get very good deal. I
don't think your traffic is so big.
3. Once you have to pay $200/month to power your business website, buy small
business server. $5000 is not much at all.
4. If you have to buy a 2 machine plan, congradulation! You are already rich.

currently i am responsible for the whole IT infrastructure of a small company.
Basically there is something you really need to take into account, except for
those you have mentioned.
1. firewall (a good firewall will save you tons of trouble)
2. email (we prefer to handle emails by ourselves, ms exchange + nav)
3. IT consulting expense, lots of time you could not handle everything by
yourself, so you need to have a IT consulting company ready when emergency
happen.
4. you could contract a webhos

to be a cio, you need to pay more attention to security instead of popularity
i guess :)
pcanywhere is more like a back hole. any vpn solutions come with the firewall
will be better.
