previous project developers did not use version control. now I have projects/
source codes, back up of the source codes, back up of the back up, back up of
the unkown stuff floating around on the old laptop and the server...
I need to find the current production version out of this mass, makde changes
and recompile... 我狂头昏...
Question, when I copied a whole directory of a .NET project file onto a new
computers, when I tried to open that project/solution, I get error
"The project you are trying t

It is a buy in asp.net
The solution varies upon your lucky. :(
Try this: after you set the IIS, remove the project from the solution and re-
add the project into the solution by opening from the URL http://localhost.... instead of the local project file.

I've done everything as this article says except the copy project part from
within VS. I'll try that next.

This does not count since you only check in a sln file that never works.
What you need to do now is to find a clean version(the one that do not have
any of the sourcesafe file like .scc,.vssscc,etc.) of the source,manually
create the virtual path for all of the webprojects and then open the solution
file.

it was never in sourcesafe before. now I've put all of them in there so I can
compare and stuff, and try to find the production version, or make it as close
to production as possible and work on top of that.
but please do tell what's the alternative way to make it work from VSS.

use notepad to open the sln file,find out the url,manully create the virtual
path in iis.

thanks. checked, the virtual path is exactly the same as the one I've created
in IIS

a nasty solution:
create a new web project -> add existing items.
