I'm getting confused. Although analog or digital IC is a good field for
now, seems like we Chinese students are again merging into this field, which
might finally make it another poor "biology".
I still think a "data-sheet" level analog engineer is mostly wanted in
electrical engineering nowadays, almost every industry needs such a guy, but
I can almost count IC companies with both hands.

Integration is the trend, you have to admit. Besides, "data-sheet" level
analog engineer often play the supporting role.

it won't happen. first of all, not many analog IC circuit design jobs
available. Like you said below, not very many companies and in each company,
only small percent of circuit designer jobs are analog ones. secondly, not
a lot MS programs in the US that produce analog IC designers. thirdly, EE
students from china are much fewer than biology students, and also getting
MS or Ph.D. in circuit designers requires certainly course/trainings.

"data sheet"level 不是我发明的，是National Semi的Bob Pease提过的 (写过一本满
有名的troubleshooting analog circuits).
就是设计电路，然后根据data sheet挑元件而已。
不知上面某位为什么说data sheet level是做supporting.可是任何电器设备都是雇了
data sheet level的人来设计的，和IC的没太大关系。所以我觉得后者比较狭窄。在外
行人眼里，EE应该大多都是焊电路板的吧。
认识一些老年analog consultant,每年接几个月任务设计新产品，赚钱无数。
anyway,我好像是废话连篇。

可能因为这边做板级设计的很多都是本科生
国内过来念ee master/phd的毕业了做这个的不多？

I guess there are 2 job levels: data-sheet and analog IC.
data-sheet level belongs to application engineer
anlaog IC is focus on transistor level design
just guess,hehe

这个说是analog circuit design 没错，不过现在一般人说到analog circuit design
意为 analog "integrated" circuit design.
没有suport 不support 的问题。只不过做IC design的觉得比较高级，比较酷而已。
在外
EE还很多搞软件的呢。
能设计好的电路，做出PCB, 调试通过是很好赚钱。
不过我同事去年告诉我在加州有招analog IC desiner 的 contract, $200/hour.大概是要7-10 years of experience

主板已经是卖白菜好几年了。内存也是。因为这些东西其实没有什么design可言，都是
蛋炒饭。
CPU 越来越便宜，不过离卖白菜还早，应为有很高的开发成本。

There is only one one or two OS companies like microsoft or Linux,whoever is
doing that, but there are many software companies, where "data sheet"
engineers write their code according to Windows spec.

most importantly, it takes years to be good at analog design and anyone
entering the field now wouldn't be a competitor until 5 or 10 years from now.
by then, you have made your money.
