in the original problem proposed by restless, let's
assume that
1) the 2nd player knows which box has the ball;
2) the 2nd player doesn't open the box infront
of the first player. Instead, the 2nd player tells
the first player what's inside the box he just picked;
3) the 2nd are allowed to lie. However, if he lies and
is proven a liar (when the first decides to switch
and opens the box), he would pay the 2nd player
one ball.
4) each player plays to maximize his balls.

still unclear. if you are just making up a problem, try to make sure everying
thing is clear before putting it. or if you are putting from other sources,
please make everying as complete as it is originally.

if the player switch to the left box and the ball is in that box, he/she gets
the ball, right? how do they allocate the ball if it is not in the box the
player switchs to? if the dealer is found to tell a lie that the picked box
contains the ball, how to deal with the ball in the box?

I basically dreamed up the problem. You are making it harder
than it really is.
yes to your first question.
If the box the player selects doesn't contain a ball, the
player gets nothing.
for the third question, the player would get the ball in the
box, and in addition the dealer would give him another ball
(so the player would have two balls).
