No!
The first class I learned in USA is that econometrics is nonsense!
(data themselves are not nonsense)
If you do econometrics in our dept, you can hardly graduate!
Some friends of mine, their undergrad performance is very good, however, I
feel sorry when I see their dissertation is mainly econometrics, the result is
that they do not find good job in academic.
Almost surely
Through math, this kind of economics has developed very well.

econometrics itself is innocent. it is just a tool, as is game theory,
statistics or math. but most so-called empirical research do not make sense,
partly because people who do it do not want to or can not make sense.
nevertheless, there are some creative, rigourous and significant empirical
research.
what is your dept? if u can not graduate with econometrics work, it is simply
because you do not do good work. it is not because you do econometrics work.

no offense, but what have you done to qualify you for making such
a judgement?
