70k one was a governmental position, which requires green cards. That 50k

They offer a little bit higher salary to fresh PhD in their research team (
seems in Pasadena, CA). Range from around 62 to 65K.

nothing absolute. Not sure about the federal, but some state governments do
sponsor h1b, gc, etc. however, they usually offer quite low salary, say, 10k
-20k lower than a similar position in the private sector. as I said, nothing
absolute. They may also offer higher salaries, depending on each individual
case.

一般而言他们福利好，也稳定。我唯一知道的，可以做比较的一个例子是这样：
我们州环保局，去年11月招了个engineer，去年博士毕业，韩国人。工资40k-44k之间
，每年除了公共假期，personal leave是240个钟头，当然外加各类保险，一般都不错。
而我们州engineering consulting公司里头，我们公司待遇算是很好的了，但每年除了
公共假期，personal leave只有129个钟头，此外也有各类保险（这个公司之间会有差
异）。工资一般会比政府的高15k-20k。
我跟那个韩国人因为工作关系（我们的项目是他具体审理），也因为原先背景相似（我
的导师跟他的导师曾有项目合作），相互了解不少。他其实想来公司，但是因为OPT的
gap，只能找non-profit的机构办H1B。
这个比较只是entry level的，不清楚工作时间长了后会怎样。所以，你看自己拿到的
offer的那个package具体怎样再比较会比较有意义些。

我们州环保局，去年11月招了个engineer，去年博士毕业，韩国人。工资40k-44k之间

One of my american classmates who is a master student got two offers. Both
are in northern CA, medium living cost. One paid $61.5k/y plus 2.4 sign on
bonus and about 10% stock. The other one paid 52k/y and is a relatively
small company.

呢？
今年申请h1b，到现在还没有消息，看来没有抽到签。我是环境科学的学位，居然不算
在stem里，opt不能延期，只能去找non-profit的工作了。可以知道一下你在那个州吗

for 1.5 yrs before I changed my job. My feeling is government job is not as
easy as many people think at least for me. It might be true for the
technical skills since we hire the consultant to do the project but it
definitely needs good management skills. For my job, we also need to
negotiate the agreements with the developer, the prices with the consultants
/contractors, and acquing the easement from the home owner. Som
for 1.5 yrs before I changed my job. My feeling is government job is not as
easy as many people think at least for me. It might be true for the

definitely needs good management skills. For my job, we also need to

呵呵，我们州的环保部门最近很是因为一个项目，被我们烦。上上周五躲不过，跟我们
，还有我们的client一起开了个会，我的头儿第一句就说，this project has been
dragged for over 1 year, which is unusual. And you have kept crossing the
line, you have kept setting up the new target pole. honestly, we have been
frustrated, our client has been losing money...blah blah
之前他们躲着不回电话，不回email，我们持续骚扰他们大约3个星期，甚至都提到
lawsuit了。总之，这样难度稍微大些，有些research性质的项目，一般可扯皮的空间
就大些，因为没有定数。参数稍微改一下，就是若干万的钱的事情。要是这样的项目多
几个，州政府可是要头痛死了。甚至为了这样的项目，他们都还要去参加些workshop类
的充电，也不容易。
