teaching school可能是那些没怎么听说过的学校吧。
我面的学校也不怎么样，但是还都是1+1的

可以看看能不能申请NIH Area，不能申请的基本上是research school.还有看看对方有
没有PhD program.

有PhD program的可以算有research的

No, not true. You also to see more information regarding the Ph.D. program.
Like; 1) how long time the Ph.D. program has been there? 2) Statistics of
the number of Ph.D. graduates.
Some teaching schools are eager to become a research school. So, starting a
Ph.D. program is not hard. These schools can easily establish such junk Ph.D
. programs through lobbying the university and the state. However, it is
relatively difficult for these junk Ph.D. programs to have qualitative
production on Ph.D. graduates.
