In this May, I went to New York City and got a parking ticket for the car I
rented. I put money in the meter for the parking lot, but because it was so
dark and i did not realize a distant board saying that that line parking
spaces need specific permits.
Now NYC Dept. of Finance sent me the ticket (I guess they got my address from
the car rental company) and asked me to pay the fine. I am out of NY state and
I live in midwest. I was wondering if anybody would know what if I don't pay
the ticket.

the police department can trace you to the rental company,
which has ALL of your information: SSN, license #, etc.
My suggestion is: pay the ticket.
It's noth worth risking your credit.
