phone interview时从系主任那里听说系里没有tenure这个说法。以为是私立学校，大
家都是contract based,几年续一次约,promotion和其他学校是一样的。请教各位大牛
，这个正常么，有啥不好的地方？

我觉得如果一个学校没有tenure系统，那么他们应该给教授们比其他学校高很多的工资
来补偿没有Tenure带来的风险。
反正我认识一个人是从一个没有tenure系统的学校跳到了另一个有tenure系统的学校。
对于他的学术水平，不评论。至于是因为原来的系不愿意给他续合同，还是因为他觉得没
有tenure系统的保障，没有安全感，就不清楚了。

不管什么表格，都只能用英文填

多谢你的回复！
没有tenure,确实没有什么保障。不像别人拼了5，6年就轻松了。
下次有机会应该问问续约contract有哪些条件。
不知道是不是说大家都混熟了到时候直接续就完了
比较担心的是学校没钱了就会终止contract?

没有tenure is not a good university

Did he/she say there is no true tenure or there is no tenure? For example,
a lot medical schools have a tenure system, but tenure means very little
becaue you are minimum 50% soft money (some schools are 100%). If you don't
have money, you don't get pay regardless of tenure. Also, tenure and
promotion are detached. If there is NO tenure, don't go! Btw, my formal
post-doc PI is in one of top private institute, his remark on tenure (he is
tenured) is that it only worth the discount he gets for the facuty club.
The insitute is 100% soft money.

是的，比方说Scripps Institute 就是没有真正的tenure 的，但是那里的科研条件非
常好所以能够留住人。但是如果一个中不溜秋的学校也来这一套的话估计大家就都要反
了。

谢谢大家回复。
看来再面试的时候要侧面问问他们那里的faculty一般都工作多少年了，有没有中途走
的之类，多了解一下了。
不过一般据说这种学校砍人的几率比有tenure的还低，不知道是真是假？
