assistant professor of a research university (national ranking is about 130,
not high).
Major: business.
experience: 2 years at current univ. 1 year in industry.
publication: 4 in English, more than 10 in Chinese, 1 book in Chinese.
referee: reviewed 6 papers, 4 research grants for a university.
award: best paper award in a US regional conference
chairperson for several sessions in two international conferences.
I submitted applications in April and received 'Intent to deny' in June.This
is more serious than 'request for new evidence'. We were very depressed.
reasons: only 2 year research/teaching experience.
acknowledge 'publications' and denied all other claims.and even told me that
'no evidence' was found for referee work.
for award, the officer believed that it is 'local'.
Rebuttal: ask my old employer to provide a strong letter stating I was doing
outstanding research in the industry.
asked the conference chair to write a very strong letter stating the
conference is regional but never local, huge number of participants are from
many countries.he supported his claim with detailed numbers. I owe him a
lot, a great professor, who doesn't know me at all.
add two new references. Reorganized all materials. we were afraid that the
officer didn't see some of our original documents.so this time, we put all
documents in one folder (my university's) and clearly marked each document.
my advice: presentation is very important. one big folder with contents is
enough. The first time we made a huge mistake. We just put all related
materials in a big box.
