My ph.d PI has two patents licensed to a small startup company, but my name
is not on the patents (The PI took all the credits. He only put his name on
patents, not grad student and postdoc). But I have a letter from him saying
that I am one of the main contributors to the patents. Can I use it to show
the impact of my research?

可以用，但效果估计不大。因为一般claim patent的都得是个发明人吧，不管第几

Yes, to some extent, use the PI's letter.
The patents without your name as a co-author are not quite convinced.

虽然是很弱的logical connection在里面，但是加入不会hurt.
你的PI也黑了点，我们的老板都给我们credit的，我一师弟还拿了2万刀的patent
credit.

Thanks for all the input. I am just concerned that it may get me RFE.
My PI is one of the worst Ph.D advisers you can have. He basically will only
help people if he can use them. I have to work for him for free for one
month to get a reference letter for my application..:(

被嘲笑了，我没有patent：（连pending的都没，师弟比较用功，彪悍。
我们组paper最少的是我了，7个师兄弟， 5个现在都是AP,就我和另外一个师妹不是,
惭愧惭愧。
