The effects of association of two rhizospheric bacteria with an inorganic
fertilizer (urea) and root-knot nematode on plant growth, biochemical
components and nematode multiplication were assessed in the following study.
The experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of Vigna mungo
cultivar 'Azad-2' with varying proportions of nitrogen (N50 and N100); a
biofertilizer Pseudomonas fluorescens strain CHA0; and a co-inoculant
Bacillus subtilis strain Bs-5. The seedlings of black gram grown in soil
amended with nitrogen fertilizer were inoculated with the two, above
mentioned, cold tolerant bio-control bacteria in the presence and the
absence of the root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita. Inoculation with P
. fluorescens CHA0 (20 ml) exhibited vigorous vegetative growth in the
presence of urea (N100) in the treatment A5. An increase in nodulation (14.
33 per plant), total Chlorophyll content (2.91 mg/g tissue), leghaemoglobin
content (3.81 mg/g), protein content in
leaves and seeds (0.83 and 0.76 mg/g, respectively) were observed, when
compared with the control and the plants which received different doses of B
. subtilis Bs-5 in the absence of nematode inoculation. Treatment 5 showed
significant reduction in the gall number (41.66) and the number of nematodes
per gram root (4.66)
