I am thinking of whether to buy a desktop or a notebook. I would use wireless
net work card. I wonder whether new bought desktop pc can receive wireless
internet signal or should i buy some wireless net work card to make it work.
Is there any place on the computer for me to plug in the wireless net work
card

Yes, of course, if not built-in, just buy a PCI wireless card.
If you plan to run Linux, then Desktop may be a problem, as many
PCI card are soft cards without firmware on chip (load by Windows).
