San Jose or Austin TX?

Two different teams in a big IT company. One is in their HQ in San Jose,
another is in Austin TX. The offer package is almost the same and I don't
have a strong team preference. Which one should I choose?
Never been to Austin before, but heard it is a nice but warm place. Really
like San Jose, but the living cost is higher. Does Austin a good place for
Chinese to live in?

1. tx has no state tax, you save 10%.
2. 0.35M is enough to buy a good house in good district in austin, do you want to be
a slave of house in san jose your whole life?
3. austin has lots of IT companies, if you get fucked off one day, you still
have lots chances in the city or state.in addition, due to high cost, high
tech firms will eventually and gradually move out of CA and settle down in
tx due to no state tax.
4. big earthquake inevitably occurs someday sometime in CA, you just don
know when and where or if it will destroy your house.
5. UT austin is top 10 in cs, what top school does san jose have?

这个我也想说，其实还有UC系一大堆，甚至caltech也不远。。。
德州主要是比较无聊，不如加州活泼，但是的确便宜。

caltech太远了。只有UCSC和Berkeley和San Jose在一小时车程内。
硅谷的气候实在很棒，只是现在的地震威胁.....

当然是Austin了，风景好，生活便宜，机会也不少。我一个朋友从Texas搬过来，非常
后悔，经常抱怨生活水平暴跌。

Austin for sure. From your offer, you can see that bay area nowadays has no
pay advantage at all, and that applies to most companies, not just yours.
Because of California's high tax and bankruptcy government, companies will
gradually move out, and most will move to Texas.

Unless you plan to go to SF every week, San Jose is really a less happening
place than Austin. There are more Chinese restaurants, sure, but other than
that, it is very boring and half the town sleeps during weekend because of
those giant corporate campuses scattered around everywhere with large
parking lots. The people and shopping and eating places are squeezed into
very small and crowded locations. I think Austin feels more like a real
city, albeit small, while San Jose is just a corporate park, and no, it is not that close to SF, and there is no easy way getting there. Driving in SF is pain and Bart and Caltrain service sucks.

不能光看温度。Arizon的干热110F和德州高湿度的100F是很不同的。

100F高湿度得热更难受啊。至少加州，Arizona这里白天热，晚上风一吹就凉快了。
