应该说是否可以voluteer去干活。
然后说这个status问题吧。
再写信澄清说：是想voluteer去干活。不是lie，如果能voluteer，那只是例行公事的
通知ISSO自己目前的status状态。

Having stayed in America for years, you should know that. Absolutely
impossible for your ex-boss. Why would he do so? Not even if you are his
brother. That is violating the law.
Perhaps, it is better for you tos write a letter of apology with the subject
title "Apology". Inside, just a few words to make sincere apologies.
The worse part of this: you should never put him or that part of experience
at his lab on your resume. Otherwise, if your future manager calls him, he
would tell the truth.

如果是我，我不会写apology，我会说如果让你误会了，很抱歉。我只是想找个
voluteer，如果你这里不可以，我可以找其他地方。要表明真心找voluteer，可以干活
的那种，而不是晃悠一下，不干活却让人家写。

Ask international program officer for suggestions. They should know what
to do. Also, what you have done is: go to a doctor at random and without
checking when you are suffering from the disease. Calm down first.
I would email your exboss to explain CONCISELY that the stress of job
hunting made you do something wrong. His letter is a timely reminder and you
really appreciate his honesty. Tell him that you will not do anything
similar again. Instead, you will learn from the mistake and keep in mind
that integrity is the No.1 in your life.
Don't write a long letter. To let him read it, put "apology" in the
subject title.

That sentence is a Chinese idiom. Pingying: You ping luan qiou yi.
Here, disease refers to the fact that you are jobless and becomes desperate.
Email your ex-boss and let him know that you realized your mistake made
under some stressful situations. If he replies and softens, you may contact
him further about putting him and the experience on the CV. Ask frankly:" I
am doing so because I assume you are going to say something positive about
me and my experience. If you are not sure, please ignore this message or let

你这样写信你指望人家怎么说？往小了说这是道德问题，大了说这是违法的。你把人家
放在火上烤还指望别人给你好脸色？
而且你还是好好练练英语吧。求人不是这种写法。而且这样的事情本来最多是电话里说
，不留痕迹。不过估计你这英语水平电话里更困难。
其实你这样的回国也好。在异国生存不是靠个MS或者PhD学位就够的。在自己的国家语
言文化你不存在劣势，对你可能更好。

请问各位那么这封信应该怎么写？从英语本身用词和交流方法两方面来说。在我只是想
暂时在ISSO有个记录而不真去当volunteer（我也知道他不缺人手）的情况下。
我这封信写得很不明智这不用说了，但学会该怎么做更重要。
P.S. 我现在的情况不允许回国。回国后在文化氛围方面的问题恐怕更严重。

No, email is ok, but not his content.
Whoever here does not sense the extreme rudeness of his email need be
careful with his english as well.
A common mistake we chinese usually make is too"direct". Pouring exact what
we want . We need be indirect or WanZhuan. we need pick soft words when
asking for help.

楼主做事还真是欠考虑啊。
信的内容怎么可能会让人答应？
至于信的语气措辞不够委婉的问题（假设你的抬头用的是你老板的名字而不是真地写了
Hi Boss），如果和老板经常保持联系，大部分老板（至少是把过去的学生当朋友的老
板）不会计较，毕竟曾经是经常见面的熟人。如果有一阵子没有见面了，多说几句客气
话或者去学校面谈会更妥当。
道歉一下也是应该的。毕竟是你主动发过去的email让别人觉得不舒服。至于volunteer
，从你老板的口气看来，多半是没有指望了。

不知道LZ来美国多久了，看起来LZ的想法还非常的“国内化”。在国内，确实，靠关
系挂靠下户口，开个假的推荐信之类的，都是常事，没人会把这跟人的品格联系起来，
但这些在美国就是另外一个说法了。
而且，严格来讲，既然你并没打算真的去当义工，你就是想让你前老板帮你撒谎。你们
的关系又不铁，你也不能给他带来什么实际利益，他拒绝你是正常的。就是在国内，也
没人理你。
吃一堑，长一智吧。美国也有很多撒谎欺骗的，但中国跟美国的游戏规则不一样，对于
我们这些外来的人，一方面没有那么多关系网，另外文化理解也不一样，很多事情还是
不要想当然的好。

我觉得还有一个问题是，楼主是他老板培养出来的学生，如果这种直接让导师帮忙作假
的信让人看到，也有可能往前追溯，质疑之前整个培养阶段是不是也一样的作假出来的。

我学校的做法是学生自己去ISSO网页上填雇主（导师）信息，然后让ISSO上报，ISSO一
般不跟雇主直接联系（我一开始也没搞懂这一点）。问题是谁也说不清移民局会不会来
